Eyes
get an eyeful
seeing is believing
or is it?
What I find odd and disturbing are the things that go on right in front of us but which somehow escape public attention. It's there but it's not really there because we don't see it. I can understand it escaping the attention of a regular Joe. I won't fault people for being absorbed by their own existence. I will fault our media and educators (the power is theirs) for not bringing it to our attention. At the end of the day there is something very frightening about how complicit our media has become. The fourth estate has no excuse for their behavior.
I posted that RFK Jr. speech a short time ago because you spoke to exactly the points he was making but he closes that little video with a statement about Republicans just not knowing what is going on...oversimplifying things by stating a Republican is just a Democrat with his or her eyes closed.
You point folks to something which will give them an "eyeful" but how many will find that, interpret its meaning, and have their eyes opened? Our guy at TPM does a great job and it does seem that really "the revolution will not be televised", you'll only find it on the internet...which comically (tragically?) enough is being labeled a "tool of terrorists" by folks inside Bushco and their nasty cohorts.
There is no public outcry because they don't understand it and watching bits and pieces of the Goodling testimony it seemed to me that those conducting the hearing either could not grasp what they should have been asking or simply did not want to ask. The giant grin on the big fat face of Goodling's attorney seemed to give away his amusement at just how inept these guys were at pinning his client down. They just did not know where to go with her...even after the amount of time that passed to get her ass in the chair...sure she admitted to a crime but she has immunity and they got no closer to where they wanted to go. Bush followed up by getting right out there to bash the hearings as nothing but partisan drama and they gave him the opening to do so...handed it to him on a silver platter.
So we're stuck with inept politicians handling the investigations in many cases (Sheldon Whitehouse is an exception at this point), a media that just lets everybody get up in front of the public and say whatever shit they want and does not call them out on it, and a general public that has been sold a lifestyle that encourages detachment and on top of that has to sort through layer upon layer of smoke and bullshit to even get a whiff of what's really relevant to their lives.
End result...a small group of industrialists can hijack our government, gather and condense powers in the executive branch, giving them the ability to easily override the Constitution and do as they please wherever they please while holding a lifetime get out of jail free card because they no longer answer to anyone.
Fuck...I'm ranting...
