Took the family to see Pirates 3 today. Overall a train wreck. Lots of stuff getting blown up and smacked together, including plot points.

Why bring it into this thread? The primary plot point at the beginning is that the East India Company is trying to put down the threat of piracy, and a voice-over announces the suspension of all sorts of things, such as habeas corpus, trial by jury, illegal search/seizure, etc. etc. in order to get to the pirates. Those known to be pirates are hung. Those known to know pirates are hung. Etc.

Heavy-handed allegory, but it was nice to see Jerry Bruckheimer of all people work a political statement in. Although Enemy of the State, Deja Vu, and even Crimson Tide certainly had a point of view.

Even still, I wonder how many of the 10 million or so people who plopped down their $10 to see P3 really get what's going on. Especially since, in that little universe, the pirates were the good guys.
