"This is a test. For the next sixty seconds, this station will conduct a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test."

Well you know, Ed, due to what took place in Ohio we may have never elected the guy so my title might be a complete disaster. I did think about calling this post "A good argument for abortion" but that seemed way too mean. And SJL, please note nobody is answering that question...which may actually be an answer...
I know guys, I'm sorry for posting that but I really didn't want to wallow alone in my misery. Here's the thing, I don't think all those people in the video are idiots, just terribly uninformed. Why they are so clueless is really what should concern us. I'm sure we could list a hundred reasons for this in pretty short order but we here on this board are pretty much in our own little world. What I mean by that is everybody that posts here pays more attention to what is going on in the world than the majority of people in this country. Look, people might disagree with Pat fairly often here but he is paying attention to politics and the world. I think the reason the group that posts with some regularity here is small has less to do with David and his musical output and more to do with the fact that a good percentage of our posts have something to do with politics, current events, or world affairs and it would seem that most people are not interested in or intimidated by these subjects. There are probably a lot more fans of David and his music but they just aren't fans of this board. That video I posted may be a hint as to why. Now the cute young blonde girl that seemed to think a triangle had no sides or one and seemed awful surprised that the United States begins with a 'U'...well...she's a product of some public school system, in Texas probably, and that was shameful...and no blonde jokes 'cause I'm a blonde ya know...Roger, you may have nailed this one...that video probably would give Karl Rove wood faster than a truckload of viagra and 12 year old boys...jesus, did I really just type that...but really when Karl told Sheryl Crow he didn't work for her he worked for the American people...well...these are the people he meant...

False Alarm of 1971
The Emergency Broadcast System was accidentally activated at 9:33 AM EST on February 20, 1971. A system operator accidentally "played the wrong tape" during a test of the system. As a result, an EBS activation message authenticated with the codeword "HATEFULNESS" was sent through the entire system, ordering stations to shut down and broadcast the alert of a national emergency. A cancellation message was not sent until 10:00 AM EST. This false alarm demonstrated major flaws in the EBS system. Many stations had not received the alert, but more importantly, the vast majority of those that did ignored it. The only station in the country that shut down as mandated by FCC rules was WSNS-TV (Ch 44) in Chicago. The operations manager in charge refused to play the attack warning. Numerous investigations were launched but few changes were made to the EBS. The Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) was an emergency warning system in the USA used from 1963 to 1997, at which time it was replaced with the Emergency Alert System.
