I once telephoned a small technical school with the intent of inquiring about any possible English teaching positions. I did not realize I'd be talking with an actual person, expecting instead an answering machine. The person answered, and I, dumbfounded, said:"oh. Yah. Um, I . . . call . . . for . . . English, job?"My wife still ribs me about that one.
