Grn Mountain,Sigh. Here is the sad thing: deviance is an actual complex thing to discuss. The human form is so, so complex. Many things go into what we become: nutrition, biology, environment, parents, friends, education, pre-natal vitamins. All of it. Each part plays a large and small role. Some roles much larger than others. My point? Being the good liberal that I am, I tell my trusted co-workers that for a liberal to work in law enforcement, it is to find with the things that are seen every day, everything they believe in is challenged and questioned each and every day, while a conservative gets to see things that reinforces their beliefs each and every day. I'm not trying to make excuses for deviance when in comes racial identifiers, only trying to point out that so much of this is so much deeper than the easy answers many of us want to find. One time a great friend of mine, a black woman, and I were talking about race and sexual orientation. I suggested to her that in a way they were similar - things we can't do much to hide - she rightly corrected me by telling me how they were much different, how one can hide sexual orientation, but can never hide a race. Stories of horrific crimes go reported each day, so much so that many of them go underreported. If anyone doubts this, just do a simple google search. The level of murder and mayhem in America is astounding. Don't fall into the trap of a story that is being mainly pushed by conservative right wingers (the story you link to has become amplified by Michele Malkin for racial politics).
