Apparently, the real Buford T.Pusser was a Sherriff in some small town in Tennessee. He carried a "big stick" (to make up for his little...pr....ck, in my opinion). They had a TV series about him called Walking Tall (see below), which tanked (just like Buford), after just one season. The real Buford died in 1974. He has a website, complete (or should I say replete..) with photos. Very "redneckish" looking fellow, but nothing distinctive. He did "wrestle" at one time (probably with the demons in his head).

Other Thoughts:
- The show aired on Saturday nights at 10pm on NBC ,and only ran for one season as far as I can remember back. The series was based on the trilogy of "Walking Tall " movies from the 70's; which told the story of real-life McNairy County, Tennessee Sheriff , Buford T.Pusser. In the series ,Bo Svenson, who portrayed Sheriff Pusser on the big screen in "WT2" and "WT3:Final Chapter", reprises his role as the small-town sheriff that "Walks Tall and kicks ass with a big stick" while single-handedly taking on organized crime in his community. The series "JTS" from episode 1 by the show taking place in the "80s" and taking on current issues ,due to the fact that ,Buford Pusser was killed in a freak car crash in 1974.
- You mean to tell me this cracker is walkin' around with a stick kickin' ass? Where's the guns? I don't give a damn if it's set in the 40's, 70's or whenever. You can't bring a stick to a gunfight. He should've been shot on principle in the first episode!
- I understand that this is based on a true story BUT I'm not watching a show where a guy with a big friggin' stick walks around and takes out bad guys. Where are their guns? Why doesn't anyone else have a big stick?
- As someone who was raised in Adamsville, Tennessee (in McNairy County,)I found that this show - like the movie - was a gross exaggeration of what life was really like in "Bufford Pusser Country." Pusser's urban legend status did not exist until after the original "Walking Tall" movie came out, which was full of half-truths, misconceptions, and outright B. S. The people of McNairy County objected so strongly to the movie that they wouldn't allow "Walking Tall" to be filmed on location. Pusser's actual legacy and McNairy County, Tennessee are nowhere near the exciting, drama that Hollywood presented. The one season this show aired was one season too many.
