Think Langholm refers to itself as the Muckle Toon (the big Town) - a bit ambitious for a village of around 2000, a new arts centre has opened there with some pretty eclectic acts...usually its only the Proclaimers who come to the Borders, another reason for rural depopulation. Langholm is about five or ten miles from the Engerlisch border, scarily close to the land of the Morris Dancer. I did get drunk there once many years ago, we planned a cross border raid, but decided to have another drink instead!
