Not to pick nits, Greenie, but it's "drought", not "draught".  The difference between the lack of water and a frothy mug of ale, I thinks.

That aside, I've lived in the Atlanta GA area for about 10 years after spending my entire preceding life in various parts of Illinois.  Although we had dry years in IL, there was never really much concern over the quantity of available water for drinking and watering, perhaps due to the abundance of underground aquifers and that big pond just east of Chicago.  Crops certainly suffered, but yards, flower gardens, and people generally didn't.

However, 7 of the 10 summers I've spent in GA have qualified for drought status, which brings the inevitable watering bans and so forth.  This wouldn't be so bad, except that everyone's yard is covered with Bermuda grass, which turns a pathetic shade of brownish beige if it doesn't receive enough moisture.  Why a ground covering is chosen that isn't well supported by the local climate is beyond me, but some of my neighbors spend hours in the wee morning making sure they apply every last allowable drop to keep the green up.  I don't care much, which results in the occasional nasty letter from the Homeowner's Association.

Suburbia....love it....
