I thought Children of Men was a good film and I did take it as a warning. The idea that we are now not far from the world it presents is certainly not a comfort. 2030 is the year we may be looking at a vastly different planet than the one we live on now. That gives us a time frame of probably the next 10 years or so to make some drastic changes before we are doomed to seeing things we probably don't want to see. Some people already think it may be too late but I refuse to believe that. We no longer have the time to build "third parties" to challenge the Democrats and Republicans though. We need a new direction now and "now" means the Democrats. Republicans have pretty much dominated our government for nearly 40 years and they have done nothing but make things increasingly worse.

It's an interesting fact that while society has become more and more liberal (and that shift continues and won't stop) we've tended to vote more for Republicans or people who call themselves Conservative. Fear has been the primary tool to get people to vote Republican or "Conservative" and as time passes the "fear factor" has been turned up. I think there is a natural instinct to vote "conservative" as we become more "liberal" as people. It's almost a way of reigning ourselves in due to our fear of change. It also makes it perfectly understandable that as the world continues to shift toward more liberal views and the left that certain groups on the "right" or "conservative" side become more fearful of seeing their way of life slipping away. We need to shed this fear.

As science has shown many religious beliefs to be nonsense (like the world only being 6000 years old) and as mankind has become more self reliant and capable of solving problems we would never have been able to solve in the past we have naturally shifted away from needing to "pray" for a solution and instead we go find one. It's also interesting though that as we have moved forward with science and technology we have also come to the natural conclusion that mankind must help itself and therefore we need each other more than ever. To solve our problems it has never been more obvious that we need to come together and when we do we have the capability to do amazing things. Our faith now must be in our fellow human beings and we must take responsibility for ourselves if we are to move forward. We can not fear this challenge, we must accept it and move forward. We have to all become progressive thinkers and shed our lazy and useless traditions.
