Complete agreement.
We've had a deer problem here for years. The Cuyahoga Vally National park and the Metroparks were overrun. The underbrush was non existant - the deer ate it, so the smaller animals and birds had no cover or nesting areas.
Both parks and the city of Solon have been hiring sharpshooters for the last five years. The parks are closed during the culls, and Solon sets up bait on private property (arranged with property owner/volunteers) and shoots from a tower blind directly above. There was an article in the PD last week that reported on the success of Solon's efforts. There have been previous reports on the Metroparks success.
Needless to say, the opposition groups started immediately. "In Defense of Deer" was ineffective in stopping a Metroparks tax levy. The founder, Bonnie Vlach, (who lives in my neighborhood) was last reported as colliding with a deer near my house with her car. She left the scene to call a Vet and returned to find Maple Heights cops on the scene. After a confrontation, she was ordered to leave the scene before the police put the deer out of it's misery.
I live in an inner ring suburb, and we've had a Doe and her offspring (4 so far)in the neighborhood for the last three years. The Doe was hit by a car but survived with a bad knee - there is a large knot at the joint and she can not put weight on it - unfortunately it does not prevent procreation. They trashed my garden and beds this year - the repellent does not work on them any more, so I'll have to fence next year.
