News is breaking out of Texas that the baby that washed up on shore a couple of weeks ago and named Baby Grace is believed to be Riley Ann Sawyers. The mother and stepfather have been arrested. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/11/25/body.found.arrest/index.htmlFor the life of me, I just can't figure out how adults can harm children. NO matter how irritated, upset or angry I get at my own children, when I look in their eyes and see their faces, it all melts away. Years ago, the second murder I ever worked on involved the beating death of a five year old girl by her mother and her mother's boyfriend. Being new in this part of my occupation, I was still able to set aside such things in a more scientific and mentally sterile way. Later, one co-worker at the time, after a short foot pursuit of the of the six-foot-seven inch boyfriend blurted out, "I should have just shot the son of a bitch." Being childless at the time, the comment made me sort of remember how those of us in this field should remain emotionally removed from such things. Now, after having children of my own, though I would not act on such feelings, I now understand what he meant.
