Hey Willis. Over the past two weeks I've seen both Dan and Dar here in Charlottesville. The Dan Bern show was good but not great and the stuff he played from the new CD - Fleeting Days - was good but again not great. I think most of the songs seemed to run together - and the wit of his lyrics got lost in there somewhere.
Now, the Dar Williams show last night was nothing short of awesome. She started off a little rough (I think she was coming off a cold)...but about 4 songs in - she was hitting her stride. I'm not sure, but I think she played about everything from the new CD - which is what I was hoping for. I'm listening to the new one today at work - and I do now have a better feeling about the new CD. The Ben Taylor Band opened for her. They have a good sound, but I just couldn't get past the James Taylor thing...he sounds JUST like his dad...almost to the point where it sounds like he's trying to.
Yeah - I haven't picked up the new Ani yet either. Maybe I'll get that one this weekend. I'm heading off to the mountains of WV to dig some ramps. Anyone ever had ramps? MMMMM!
