Tonight we’re gona party like it’s 19zero7
Ye better put your cash into gold…or better
I saw a banker over there eating porterhouse,
…it wasn’t porterhouse, …it was his debtor
somebody might’ve saw it coming and said,
“No, ye bastids, ye let my fucking people go!”
But, …somehow, it didn’t go down like that
& now we spiral, viral, oh peril in mad hats
my brain is flamed-out, my heart is broken
bad men w/ leg of mutton and blood tokens
the air around my head is mercury thickened
while I read this piece of history, I’m sickened
& I’m trying to figure out how to make a million
just…so I can try to build a safe haven for my kids
but what’s a million when the empire debt is trillions
I stride nearby clear water, jus so not to flip my lid
It makes us all into bad men or bag men or yes men,
even the one’s who most inspired strength in the people
Heard this song once that was so honest it made me tremble
But now even its creator is subdued by the weight of injustice
& so I sing THIS song, as the burden of inequity pushes down
& I dance the dance of the hopeful clown, just to keep on breathing
and I put my arms around you, girl, even as we watch the wave crown
& smile at our children there, somehow thinking our smile is enough
Chris went into the wild to trail a journey; crossed a riverbed of carry on & leeway
He loved the presence of said riverbed, all rich with hope and wonder, music, honesty
Mostly unaware of the elegy being written: …he never saw that riverbed again...………..
