Well...looking at that clip (and I was surprised that seems to be a comedy and I thought all he did was films based on video games) that looks like he meant it to be bad in a dumb and goofy way. Obviously in bad taste but I think when people are making a movie that they know up front is bad (and he had to know that was just a bunch of goofy bullshit) then you can't really call that person a bad director because he did what he set out to do.
He set out to make a bad goofy film and he made a bad goofy film...well he does claim in that email that parts of the film are "genius" so who knows I guess...
More films to avoid:
(a note about this list: I'm only counting films I made it all the way through, if I walked out of it or turned it off I won't count that.)
Man of the Year - Train wreck!
Velvet Goldmine - Christian Bale is in this and a whole bunch of other people you'll know but stay very far away from this.
The Guardian - This was actually directed by William Friedkin and I have no clue what he was thinking. Some kind of tree that eats babies...yeah, that sounds like a good idea.
Desperate Hours - The Michael Cimino remake...Heaven's Gate is what he's got a bad reputation for but this thing is a mess. Lot's of talent in this and it's terrible.
