IMO, Spielberg generally makes excellent films, right up until the end, when he uncorks the saccharine, gets out the powdered sugar, and sends the audience into a diabetic fit of sentimentality. I thought some of his stuff, Minority Report and AI in particular, were unsurpassed for hollywood films, right up until he tacked on the sugar shock.
