Yeah, the book thing was not unusual for him. In this case I'm talking about my mother's father and there was a reason he would bring cardboard boxes full of books to my parent's house every weekend. I don't think he was reading them all but my mother was. He brought them mainly for her and she read every one of them no matter what they were. I've never met anybody that reads like my mother. She reads stacks of books every week. She is a book junkie. My grandfather was mainly supplying her habit which is not an easy thing to do. He would collect boxes at yard sales, libraries, and when he was out working if he was at a home where they had books to get rid of he'd take them. The thing was when he would arrive with the boxes of books I'd pick through them too so he began giving me a couple of books he thought I might be interested in. In the case of Catch 22 I think he just said "This is a great book you should read this someday." and handed it to me. My mother took it away from me, of course, but when she had read it I took it back. I put it on the shelf in my room and my mother never touched it again because she had read it.

Yes, I think I've told some stories here about him. I've got hundreds of them and he is a person worth writing about, talking about, whatever. I've never met anybody like him.
