Let's not forget that most (if not all) modern Christian denominations follow a bible that was established by, edited by, and agreed upon by the Catholic church. Whether you like it or not, you're following a Catholic scripture. There were plenty of other Gospels, letters, and post-transfiguration prophecies that were not included for one reason or another. The biggest reason for their exclusion had to do with what message the Catholic Church wanted to convey to their parishioners and what would give the church the greatest degree of control over information found in the bible.

I haven't set foot in a bible study in over 20 years, but I know that these documents were never ever mentioned, let alone studied, as a part of my christian education.
