I've read responses from everyone and I thank you all for taking the time to do so. I was overwhelmed with the amount of information I was given last night with regards to this issue. England claims to have a DNA data bank of 1/3 of all males in the 18-40 age range already. They are discussing a "DNA Dragnet" to take samples of all those not on file and will take them with force if need be.
The issue here is there is quite a bit of discussion of how they will use this information to catagorize you as a human being. Your DNA is the finger print of who you are, scientists believe, and can be used to determine if you are a risk to commit a crime, the level of intelligence you can achieve, if you are likely to become an alcoholic or drug addict, how long you may live, your risk of contracting a disese, etc...
In other words, in the future, near future, they may use this information to determine your status in our society. They could show up at Dale or Kevin G's door and take them away for the good of society because a scientist says they have too many 'y' chromosomes and are likely to kill or hurt someone. You may get turned down for a loan because part of the background check they do on you includes checking your DNA to see if it's likely you'll live a long time or if you're given to certain behavioral patterns they find unsatisfactory. You may not get the promotion at work or be deemed unsuitable for the job you have now due to DNA reports. You'd like to hand over all the information about who and what you are to a bunch of bungling bureaucrats who have more interest in serving big business than watching out for the average Joe?
I take it Kevin G and Dale would like to post all their personal information here on the net for public viewing and take up residence in some government funded "Glass Housing" where everyone can watch you all the time because you've "got nothing to hide."
Maybe you could start by posting how much you make a year, what's in your checkbook right now, how many times you make love to your wife a week, and all your medical records as well. I mean come on, it's not about what have you got to hide! It's about having rights to protect your privacy and personal information. Why should you hand over all your info to the state? Why should they be allowed to build their own personal profile of who Dale or Kevin G is and draw their own conclusions from it? That's what will come of this.
It's pretty damn silly to say that you've got no problem with giving these idiots your personal profile so they may do as they wish with it. They do a damn good job with your tax dollars don't they? So why not let them have access to all of your personal information. Good thinking! Say yes to the government crawling further and further up your ass with a microscope! Maybe Barney Frank could come by and check your prostate Dale.
