"My goals were never to be a particulary outlandish or left of center or avant-garde" says Mann with a dry laugh. "My tastes harmonically really run to classic '70's chord progressions and melodies, and my ideas are pretty simple. None of that is a crazy or experimental. From a record company viewpoint, everybody's so worried about 'Can this be turned into a million selling record?' and what's required to turn it into a million selling record is usaully to remove everything that's interesting. Their Idea of commercial is so much more bland then mine. My music is not going to sell outside a certain audience, so why not leave it alone so you don't alienate the people who actually like it ?"

 -Aimee Mann

Miss Mann has allways championed artistic freedom, rather than record sales. She knows that her fans may download her songs off her website, but they will purchase her CD as well. After her troubles with the Interscope Label she took them to court to buy back the tapes. She then decided to release the album herself. Then she was asked to contribute songs for the Paul Thomas movie, "Magnolia". It turns out that the movie was inspired by one of her songs. Her Oscar nomination didn't hurt the sales of those albums as well. Then those idiots at the Universal Label decided they would ride her recent sucess and release a collection of her songs from Till Tuesday and first two solo albums. This was done without her authorization, and she successfully sued them as well.

Aimee Mann is a bright beacon of indipendence in theese dreadfully comercial times. As they say "Girl You Rock!",she does in so many ways. Enjoy the record, it has some of her smartest lyrics she ever has written.
