Pretty much I enjoyed your responses and I think you each made an important point...with some
humor at times but still I see a serious point in each response.
First off, Peter, you are right. The people who made this ad are playing fast and loose with the
facts
and I admit I too have played fast and loose with McCain's 100 years in Iraq comment. No, in reality
he did not really say he wants to fight a 100 year war and I honestly think he does not want to do
this. So, yeah, that's a bit of bullshit and I see the point from the other side too...basically that
there will be and is so much bullshit leveled at Obama we have no choice but to throw some at
McCain too. I personally think it stinks but the thing is as much as a lot of us say we hate negative
campaigning the facts show a negative ad is 3 to 5 times more effective than a positive one...at
least 3 to 5 times and sometimes a lot more. What this means is the people who spend money on
making ads will always be tempted to go negative...sorry but that's just the facts. I hate it and it
was always my big problem with the Clintons but some Democrats felt it was what made Hillary the
better candidate, the fact that they were willing to play really dirty and hit back as hard as they
would be hit. Really, what do I know, maybe the Democrats were right and Hillary did best
represent them...all I can say is I didn't like it but like the song says "Who am I? I am nobody."
I laughed out loud at what Dan wrote and I think he's dead on...to a certain group that ad is an
"I
hate America!" deal...of course these people are fairly clueless but even
so they are out there and that means we have to account for them.
Then there's Ed's response and while I know it was meant just to be smart ass funny...and it
was...I
think the truth in it is that you can't make a subtle point that requires some serious thought in
today's marketplace of ideas. Really you have to smash people in the face with a sledgehammer to
make a point these days...and I don't mean Ed but for a lot of people you have to TYPE IT IN 6 FOOT
PRINT AND USE ONLY STUFF THAT GETS NO DEEPER THAN "SEE DICK RUN."
Really, I'm not calling people idiots when I say that but they do want it very basic and wrapped
up
with a pretty bow...which really would be fine if what they were getting with the pretty bow was not
a box full of shit...but you know a lot of people just like the box with a pretty bow and they don't
care what's in it.
