The writer revealed his true POV with the phrase "...that disrespect the military and their mission...".

The writer's attitude appears to be that any film that questions the reasons for deaths in Iraq disrespects the military. The mission--as far as I'm concerned, is to be disrespected, as the mission was based on a pre-existing agenda, lies, deceit, and the manipulation of facts, the media, and the Constitution of the USA. It is entirely possible to respect the military without respecting the mission. After all, BushCo appears to respect the mission far more than the military carrying it out, and no one on the right has been particularly vocal against that.

I saw "The Dark Knight" this past weekend (and will probably see it again, it's deep enough that I want to get all of it). I'll try to give a few thoughts without giving anything away, but my take on the whole "fight terror with terror" angle, along with the unwarranted surveillance, was a clear statement against Bush's methods. Batman clearly struggles with what he has to do and wishes there were someone who could clean up Gotham without having to resort to the methods he uses. The plot twist regarding the surveillance reveals a lot about Batman's code and his willingness to violate it, and to me makes quite a statement about what the current administration has attempted to do and how they justify it.

I'm interested to hear anyone else's opinion, as I think this film in particular brings an awful lot more to the table than any other summer action movie ever has, certainly more than any superhero movie ever has, and quite honestly more than any other "topical" film I've seen in a while. Reg, I know you don't generally go in for the popcorn movies, but I would urge you to give this one a shot. It's (IMO) extraordinarily well written, directed, acted, and filmed, and is the only film I've ever wanted to pay to see twice in the theatre. Maybe more.
