Icon Sort of interesting...

I was vaguely aware that those guys had used clips from the film for their video but having never liked them I never watched the video or listened to the song. I like the version Herring put up more than the original song as I sort of find that guy Lars seems to be one of the world's supreme assholes and anything involving him makes me think of bowel movements. Really I don't even know the guy but he comes off as such a creep every time you see him he just seems like somebody you'd want to stay far, far away from.

What's sort of interesting is that the film is unavailable on DVD in the United States so you have to import it if you want it or buy a bootleg. It is certainly not a "feel good" film but it is interesting and has a place in film history. So we can speculate as to why it is not sold here. Probably they just figure nobody would buy it but who knows really. Obviously the three of us like it so there must be more people that do as well...but I'm just another dirty commie so...

The image of Sutherland as Jesus on the train screaming as he leads the young soldiers off to die has haunted me from the first time I saw it as a boy. I think it gave me a lot of nightmares and I still get sort of weirded out when I see it. Obviously a lot of the film was probably lost on me then but images from that film seem to have burned into my brain. How about Sutherland though, huh? MASH in 70 with Altman then Johnny Got His Gun in 71 with Trumbo. Is that cool or what?
