…‘preciate the kind sentiments, all. I can’t really explain why I posted this on the dbis,
except that, for the most part, …you folks rank way up there as the good people I kinda-
sorta know. We weren’t really close, Steven and I, he’s my cousin but, because his mom
is far younger than her siblings (my mom, etc.) he was more like a nephew. WE spoke a
few times in the past few years…but that’s how it is when one’s family is mostly to the
winds…spread-out N-E-S-W. He wore his woes on his face and was a big-hearted kid.
Andrea’s post, that article, …what is that screaming-out to all of us!? What’s in all those
injections every new recruit receives in bootcamp? What all is our gov willing to do to
further their interests? Our interests? How far…, & how many more children-gone-
automatically-grown-up is it going to take to shake the trees, to shake our leaders,
to shake the very foundation of our present-day priorities? Why do we seem
so godawful bent on pissing it all away? All I can say is I wish he would
have called anyone of us last night. Any one of us. I wish he would have called me.
I wish Digs had called me the night he chose to check-out. (If applicable) I hope
I call somebody the night I choose to check-out. If you’re there in the dark…
without any light, for FUCK SAKES call somebody … & let in some light.
Bear with me, please, but this is a ditty I wrote for my ol’ pal Digs way back when, seems
just as fitting now. If we were all together, well I’d probably have to adjust to a couple of
ye, but after that, I’d pass out the cold lager or stout, stoke a small fire, and try to play this
for you. It’s a blues riff that I play adequately in A, you can play it in anything you want, the
verse extends a little bit past the standard blues pattern but (if you so chose) you can figure that
little detail out. The chorus pretty much fits the pattern. To all of them still out there: ...I think
the majority of us vote to call you home. Lets hope your captains can hear us above the din.
Getting By Blues
I went to Africa for a bite to eat / Me and Bob we had to wait for a seat / The place was crowded ~~ everybody was hungry / Passed a menu ‘round of pittance & sundry / The crowd was satisfied to get what was given / After-all, there was no way to make a livin’ / Live entertainment has a way of redeeming / That human quality that goes on deceiving
Don’t tell me lies / Help me get by / With a little love I’ll keep on trying … yeah …eah
Don’t tell me lies / Help me get by / With a little love I’m gona keep trying … yeah …eah
Daddy died at the end of all hope / Did he die of self-pity or dope? / I don’t know but I think it was brave / You can’t have my ass, gona take it my way-ay / You know it wasn’t the right thing to do / To leave this world without somebody like you / You know that you were just a phone call away / I’ll always love you ‘till my dying day
Don’t tell me lies / Help me get by / With a little love I’ll keep on trying … yeah …eah
Don’t tell me lies / Help me get by / With a little love I’m gona keep trying …yeah …eah
Come on with me and watch a movie ‘bout trippin’ / Not on a pilgrimage for latter day hippies / An opportunity to rethink a good thing / With a clear head and a penchant for tea / You saw utopia when you were a teen, girl / But then you realized it wasn’t the real world / So we’ll just sit here girl and watch an old movie / & talk of peace & love as sung by the Doobies
Don’t tell me lies [etc. repeat until you get your fill…]
It's my only way to really say thanks for your vibes today. Twisted dogone civilized lifetime.
