Scientific data shows a direct correlation between the number of pirates active on the high seas and the average global temperature.
Examine the data since the 1600's, when piracy was at its zenith, and follow the trends up to now. You'll see a pretty smooth decline in extant pirates, right along with a pretty smooth incline in the average temperature of the planet's atmosphere.
Thus, pirates keep global warming in check.
The Somalians know this, and they are providing the world once again with pirates, thus bringing the temperature down. It is a great service they do mankind, actually.
Also, any discrepancy in the temparature logs of any nation anywhere--are probably best seen as clear evidence of the intervention of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, who fools us all at every turn with His Noodly Appendage.
