you already have all that you really need. and while the absence of desire may be nirvana, all dualistic thinking aside, there's also nothing wrong with wanting a nice car or a little shag from time to time. but if we're believing that we're not happy because we don't have those things at the moment, then we're fucked. point is that my oh my are we attached to it and so have put all our faith into it, but listening intently to the "i, me, my, mine, i want, i deserve, blah blah blah" narrative upstairs isn't exactly a recipe for bliss. basically, if Mick gave up the cherished notion/concept of "Mick", he could travel lighter through life's terrain (if you're into that sort of thing). don't be so self- centered...don't take your self so seriously...get over your self...etc...excellent advice.

St. Francis, again: "It is by self-forgetting that one finds."

His Holiness the Hello Dalai: "We shouldn't think that the self is originally there and then eliminated in meditation; in fact it is something that never existed in the first place."

Albert Einstein: "A human being is part of the whole called by us universe. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. The true value of a human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self."
