Icon Obama and why I'm saying less at this point...

On Obama, I am not greatly impressed with him so far. The main issue was leading up to the election I often said and believed he would select a good team to run the show there in DC. I thought we would get a bright new group of movers and shakers...we did not. I know everybody wants to be "green" these days but recycling political losers should not be part of that plan. In fact Obama's choices in terms of "teammates" have been mind bogglingly awful much of the time. In fact I find Obama to be less a "mover & shaker" and more a "dancer"...in that he does a fantastic job dancing around stuff and seems to only like to waltz with all the same old dancehall regulars. I'd call him pretty mediocre in this way.

Now, he is likable and great in front of camera or a microphone, as you pointed out and that might help get you elected but there is more to the job than that. Sure he looks far better than Bush does but come on, a bag of hammers wearing a hat would look better than Bush as president and probably be a lot more useful. The thing is he did inherit all of Dubya's mountain of problems so he has got a long way to go before we can fairly judge the job he is doing but so far, I'd give him a solid C. Most of his points in that grade come from his ability to handle the media blitz and the fact that he hit the ground running. Where we have "run" to so far is questionable in a big way.

I like the guy but he is easy to like. It is sort of like hiring a friend to work for you, you like him but that should not play into evaluating how he does his job. Sometimes working with a friend is great and sometimes it is a mess and because I am one of the people that hired Obama my comment to him at this point would be "You gotta do better than this, specifically in choosing the people that work under you."

Keep in mind, we all know now how much the people that work under a president can define an administration...hell, this may be one of Dubya's great gifts to the American people, he showed them what putting a group of greedy, self serving, fuck-ups with a nasty agenda in your administration can do to a country.

Also the reason I'm saying less is because this fight to save Mass Academy is quite a struggle and right now I'm trying to put more time into writing about that. After the House approved the amendment to restore funding to the school it went to the Senate and they stripped it right back out. So, back to square one. Needless to say, I'm in a bad mood.
