Yeah, Oates is great in that scene. The thing that kills me is you could sit down and try to write a scene like that but what Warren does and what Peckinpah does with the pauses, the beats, the silences in the scene and how its cut...wow...really, great. I think Warren really makes it though with the delivery of his lines...the pathos...its a great bit where Warren is pleading his case and they cut to the shot of his brother who says nothing...you just feel how doomed he is...

It's kind of a rip off too for me to just post that scene because if you have watched the film from the start you feel how truly weird things have become at that point and how far out Heston's character is at that moment.
