I've just started The Big Nowhere. Just finished his The Black Dahlia a couple of weeks ago. These two introduce characters also found in LA Confidential. His Lloyd Hopkins trilogy (Blood on the Moon, Because the Night and Suicide Hill - if you look, you can buy all three in one book titled LA Noir) is an excellent place to start. Or LA Confidential. Next up will be his latest trilogy involving American Tabloid (don't even really know what these three are about).
