I have seen this a couple of times. Mostly hallucinatory, I've been told.

The brain simply wasn't wired to deal rationally. with that chemical "soup". I look upon it as tapping the depths of the subconscious such as an inspired playwright who comes up with language which moves the play but would reduce his wife to a puddle of diminishment were he to flail her with the same words.

I do, however, take exception to: "...but low… not even love could reach her..."

Love reaches, it seeps into the brain, it moves along and into each crack and cranny and cranial receptor, and moderates the terrible and involuntary--and involuntary--lava-like searing eruptions prompted by the chemical flow the brain ingests and digests, then loses control.

Love brought her back from a horror she might still be in alone.
