Certainly I agree with you about the concept of art is in the eye of the beholder and our society does provide for what the people want - it's just too bad so many are willing to consume crap (and I hope no one believes I believe myself to be the key holder to all things artistic). I just find it so perplexing that a very well known woman (or any person in her shoes) can sit there and blithely deny something that anyone can hear and interpret otherwise and do it with a straight face. What is even more troubling is when the body of work of a person is empirical proof of whether a statement is true or not. Sure, we are biased here, but for crying out loud. But then again, maybe it is just the plaintive wailing of a person who is truly bitterly envious of another person's talent. And DB, you are most likely right not to focus on these ramblings and to focus on the important things in life.
Best to all....
