titanic was flat-out brilliant.

I'm not trying to troll here (although that will likely be the result), but Titanic's successes were in the form of special effects set pieces, which I have to admit were brilliant.

The plot and characterizations, IMO, were atrocious. Forget the fact that we all know the ship is going to sink, all the major plot points were telegraphed in the first 20 minutes of the film (since it was essentialy "Romeo and Juliet Go Sailing"), and most of the characters were one-dimensional. Billy Zane's character, in particular, came off as a cartoon villain, and DiCaprio did his best to breathe life into one of the most overused dramatic cliches ever.

I'll take "The Abyss", "Aliens", T1, T2 (even with all its faults), and "True Lies" any day.
