Couldn't have put it better myself, Kevin.
I met him once after a concert circa 1974...around the time of the Sundown LP. Put on a marvelous show, and talked at length about his escapades on northern canoe trips in between songs. When I met him backstage, he had a bit of a beer gut, and a Player's plain end cigarette just dangling from his lips. He saw two old girlfriends in the crowd, and motioned to them to come and join him.
"Cmon back, Jean...wir stayin' at the Quality" (Quality Inn, in downtown Montreal at the time).
Then he turned to me, signed my programme, and said in a very crisp mid-Canadian accent.." Do y' know how t'a do the Jay stroke???"
He is apparently better now after abdominal surgery.
Speakin' of Stompin Tom..."Do y'know the words to Bud the Spud from PEI??"
