for me, the best technical musicians usually don't produce the most inspiring sounds. I realize mine is probably a minority opinion and this is why punk rock appealed to me all those years ago. As an example, the band Stiff Little Fingers has a guitarist who will never approach the extraordinary picking/strumming/inventiveness of Paco, but his powerful, yet rudimentary use of what is probably only 3 chords, is to my ears, far more compelling.
