It is sort of funny, Robert Palmer's records from Sneakin' Sally in 1974 through Double Fun in 1978 I think are pretty great. Everything that came after that I really could not stand. On those 4 records from 74-78 he had guys like Lowell George and Little Feat backing him and then he suddenly discovered 80s synth...what a terrible turn of events.
80s synth sounds did not just destroy Robert Palmer, it pretty much infected everybody, but with soulful singers like Palmer or Rod Stewart it seemed to open a door to cheezy hell. Perhaps all the devil worshipping 70s rock (and film) really did awaken the evil one and open the 9 gates to the kingdom of shadows. He unleashed Ronald Reagan, 80's synth, and just a general wave of evil, greed, and stupidity the likes of which we had never seen before and from which we have yet to recover.Honestly there was very little music produced in the 80s I can go back and listen to now...I really find it was a lot of just really terrible crap.
