It's not exactly a family blog but the Hutterite blog:http://www.hutteriteblog.com/category/hutterite-music-singing/is kind of interesting. The Hutterites are something like the Amish in being a religous community. They have colonies in eastern Montana and southern Canada especially. They can use machinery so they have electricity and farm equipment but they are not allowed to accumulate possessions or be prideful in any way. Their communities are communistic.They're certainly farmers. They're rather sharp in their business dealings with outsiders but they sell a lot of garden truck and chickens &c. in Montana at farmers markets and even supply Walmart with eggs.
