I was sympathetic, blindly sympathetic, toward Israel for a long time but that's changed over the years. Its treatment of the West Bank population is despicable and its behavior in Gaza is even worse. I have to ask what it is I owe Israel and what the U.S. owes Israel. I can't think of anything Israel has done for me or for my country other than suck up a lot of aid money and, by way of association, trash America's reputation in much of the world. It's a pretty one-sided friendship and I for one am tired of it.
