Greetings:

Tonight, while perusing the offerings on the DirecTV pay per view channels, I discovered that a free RADIOHEAD concert had just begun about twenty minutes earlier. So, I tuned in, chewed on a Rastifarian "mood-lifter" and checked out a band I had never heard or seen before.

First off, let me just say that THOM YORKE looks like MARTIN SHORT and American Idol pop star CLAY AIKEN got together and punched one out . . .

I did manage to catch ten songs, which I will list at the end of this mini review.

RADIOHEAD fits into the exact style of music that I have been researching --- it is known as the 12-note atonal discord. This band certainly has a discordant sound at times, and I was especially impressed with their use of samples and the overall musical soundscapes --- pretty trippy.

In the brief sound-byte interview segments interspersed throughout, THOM YORKE said:

"We're releasing records to mess with people's heads . . ."

He also spoke about his political views, and the political leanings of the band.

The music was supposed to introduce their newest CD, and these were the ten songs that I caught (with notes for each, my impressions, if you will):

01) KARMA POLICE (Great song with DMB vibe --- would like to hear Dave Matthews record this song!)

02) PARANOID ANDROID (Great jam, with definite ZEP like vibe)

03) EVERYTHING IN IT'S RIGHT PLACE (Great song from KID A)

04) THE BENDS (Neil Young type guitar sound)

05) SUBTERRANIAN HOMESICK ALIEN (Gilmour-like guitar, very POMPEII sounding textures)

06) BONES

07) NICE DREAM

08) LET DOWN (Pretty song)

09) NO SURPRISES

10) FAKE PLASTIC TREES

All in all, pretty good --- and I might want to check this band out further on CD.

All of you who dig this band --- what would be the first CD of theirs I should buy?

Suggestions?

Thanks!
