Earlier today I was listening to some older Neil Young songs (Old Man, The Loner, Thrasher, et cetera) and while feeling melancholy and nostalgic about past times in my life, (for example, Ragged Glory came out when I was in grad school and songs from that album always reminds me of that period of my life), I started to wonder if musicians when performing their older material ever close their eyes and imagine themselves back to when it was most pleasurable to play a particular song. Sort of like if it helps them think about a much happier or content time in their life and if such a song is like a bookmark or link to that period.
