Did you see him with Tom Petty backing? I bought the Tom Petty book and DVD and
they(The Heartbreakers) backed him for a year. They mention as you say he would
change tempo and key of songs on the fly and they just had to adjust.Also I know Charlie Sexton backed a couple of tours. Never heard any comments
on his playing with Dylan one way or the other
