Messy,As always, I thank you for your respectful insights. Great points, and I certainly remember the thrill
of junior high flag football and later, high school basketball for me. What worries me about football
for the younger kids is how enormous, powerful, and fast these kids have become. The forces that
they exert on each other are immense and scary. A few years ago, we had a local high school player
paralyzed during a blocking drill. Frontline produced a magnificent piece on high school football and
it's a eye-opener, especially for those of us who don't live down south or in Texas. I think there are
plenty of alternative sports that can instill values in young people, as they did in your sons. Check
this out when time permits, sir.http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/football-high/My favorite radio station, On-point, had a stellar show which examined big-time college football and
the disservice it provides to many "student athletes". http://onpoint.wbur.org/2013/09/12/for-student-athletes-college-football-is-a-broken-systemI know I'm swimming against the tide, Messy, but the more I learn, the more off-putting I find
present day football in America. Peter T.
