No, not the idiot box that we've all grown up with, I mean the Tom Verlaine led band that my
older brother, Mike, has worshiped for decades! I've tried on numerous occasions to get into this
group. Verlaine's bizarre voice, the lack of agreeable melodies, and obtuse lyrics have always
proved to be aural barriers I couldn't overcome. Mike drove from Massachusetts to Brooklyn
recently to see them (and that's a lot of energy expended for my rapidly aging sibling). Anyway,
they're coming to Boston in the spring and Mike is excited that I'll join him as he thinks the live
experience may finally convert me (though it seems a reach). Are there any fans here? Any critics? Here's a sample from their album, Marquee Moon. Critic Robert Christgau rated it the best album
of 1977.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7L0IYPXKj8Peter T.
