Hey PK. Only just got back home from Cape Town, so been offline since Sunday.I don't really have the words, if I'm honest, to explain how seeing Bruce
live affected me. I had incredibly high expectations, and he surpassed them
to such a level that I'm still reeling and wondering if it really happened.Sunday night we had seats, the show was incredible but the crowd energy just
wasn't there. The tour opener was actually a 3rd Cape Town date added after
the first two sold out in minutes. So the crowd was actually the more casual
Springsteen fans. You could tell he was working his arse off to make sure the
crowd enjoyed it. And he really does go non-stop for over 3 hours, but it
feels like 5 minutes, such is his magnetism and energy. The band, well, the E
Street Band in it's current line up is the most incredible band I've ever
seen. Nils Lofgren, Tom Morello, Steve Van Zandt, etc etc... What more can I
say?Last night, well, that was a different story. My nephew and I got into the
pit... and the crowd was an animal. A living breathing organism of Bruce
fandom... And I can actually now say, I've touched Bruce Springsteen... HE
shook my hand as he walked past us on the ramp in the crowd which we stood
against. I have an incredible video of him which I will cherish forever. I
will upload it to YouTube and post the link here...Two different setlists, equally incredible. not too long ago, I could only
dream of seeing my all time favourite artist. Now I've seen him, touched him,
heard and felt the power and joy of him live.As good as I thought he would be, he was far, far, better. A friend who went
said he feels unworthy, as a casual fan, of having experienced what he saw
and what Bruce gave us.Last night he said a short tribute to Pete Seeger, and the band played a
beautiful rendition of We Shall Overcome, which he dedicated to both Pete and
Nelson Mandela.. I was there. I will never forget. We see him at the last show here in Jozi on Saturday, then, he will be gone.
Perhaps never to return. But that's okay... I have experienced the power and
spirit of the ministery of rock and roll... And I will cherish that forever.
