With a few exceptions (The Bottle Rockets, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock), I usually don't listen to much
country-influenced music, Dan. About 15 years or so ago, I read something about country music
radio not knowing what to do with Junior Brown. I was intrigued, and I'm sure they still don't know
what to do with the guy. I think it's utterly cool that a guy who looks like Junior looks, can twist the
conventional country song narrative as he does, and play the hell out of that welded contraption he's
dubbed the "guit-steel", and throw in the occasional surf/Hendrix/Berry licks, and it's all so seamless.
He's that ultra-rare musician who actually looks cool in a cowboy hat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRlcWvVYItAPeter T.
