Interesting comments. I grew up for the most part in Texas. To me the
Confederate Flag generally was on a pickup and it for the most part meant
redneck. Generally that did not include racism. However in the deep south
like Atlanta well that's a different story. I remember considering moving
to Atlanta and was warned having a Mexican wife and half-black stepson that
might not fly in Atlanta. One co-worker who had moved said all was fine for
his son until they found out his mother was Mexican and then they
blackballed him. He was moving back to San Antonio. Another former worker
who was living there told me "Down here they call them N-Word to their
face!" I was appalled, that was true hate. Needless to say I did not make
the move. So the point is the Flag means very different things depending on what
part of the country you come from.
