I have to say that it has been heartening to see so many from the GOP calling for its removal. Yes,
politics played a role for some, but I'm sure there was genuine soul-searching going on and many
just wanted to do the right thing. No need for further speculation as to motives as there's a whole
lot of work ahead of the country. I think the greater acceptance of interracial marriage will aid in
this. My brother is married to a woman from Uganda and their daughter will hopefully see greater
gains in her lifetime. Recognition and fear of "the other" probably had some survival benefits in
our past but we're largely past that, right?Peter T.
