On Point just had an insightful discussion related to Internet Addiction. The entire show is worth
listening to but at a minimum, fast forward to 13:30 and listen for just a few minutes as a
researcher discusses how the Internet, email, social media, etc. provide variable, intermittent, and
unpredictable stimulation that releases small amounts of dopamine in the brain. He compares its
effects to those experienced by slot machine users. It's all very insidious. There is something creepy about this new world of omnipresent screens we're all viewing. I really
do wonder and worry about the effects on society, and especially children. And yes, I note the
irony of how I'm sharing this with you all. http://onpoint.wbur.org/2015/07/13/internet-addiction-web-junkiePeter T.
