You really made me think a lot about how to explain this, Dslack, so I
want to try this. Watch the video below and it sort of shows how we get
so off course. Now, Rand Paul is not an uneducated man. He is not stupid, he is however,
an asshole. He takes an issue like universal healthcare and attempts to
turn it into if you believe in that you believe in "slavery" and want to
enslave doctors and janitors. In doing this he demonizes everybody that
is trying to provide healthcare for all people. He literally uses the
word "threat" and claims that people that want to provide healthcare are
threatening people...so now they are "healthcare terrorists."Now, people in Kentucky elected this guy and here he is on the record at
a hearing about healthcare making absolutely asinine comments.
Thankfully, both Sanders and the healthcare professionals that are there
make it perfectly clear how ignorant Rand Paul's statements are and make
him look like the complete ass that he is. Here's the issue though...our media will report on that and now it is a
"fact" that a U.S. senator went on record to state that if we have
universal healthcare the police will be breaking down doors in the middle
of the night and dragging doctors down the street to force them to
provide aid to people.Sure, Sanders and the healthcare professionals made Senator Paul look
like an utter clown for saying something so idiotic but depending upon
who reports the story you will get an entirely different spin on what
happened. So, they correct him but the media will likely be more
interested in Senator Paul's ridiculous comments than the sane and
rational remarks made by Sanders and the healthcare professionals. This also makes it easy for somebody to write an article later that
includes the "fact" (because it is now a fact he entered it into the
public record) that a U.S. senator from Kentucky stated that Universal
Healthcare would result in police kicking down the doors to doctors homes
in the middle of the night. Plus a lot of people will just get Paul's comments and think "Those
bastards are trying to enslave us and they will be kicking down doctor's
doors in the middle of the night! Screw the government! They are Nazis!"Now, yes, that's all ridiculous but think about this...none of it really
is about stupidity. It is really about being intentionally misleading and
muddying the waters as much as possible to make it more difficult for
people to understand an issue. Paul's comments in that video have nothing to do with reality...they are
about making people angry and afraid. They are about confusing the issue
and I don't think he makes them because he is stupid...he makes them
intentionally to turn what should be a simple issue about providing
healthcare to people into a "terrorist attack" on doctors and janitors.I know any sane and rational person should be able to read or hear Rand
Paul's statements and think "That is outrageously ignorant!" but he
is...amazingly I know...a U.S. Senator and a doctor so some people will
think he "must know what he is talking about."
