What I find so refreshing about these shows not made in America are their maturity and avoiding of cliches.

And my, the French are some wicked show makers. I also just watched The Chalet and wow, they are not afraid of the shock in storytelling at all.

What I really liked about Happy Valley was the lead character, Susan Lancashire, was allowed to be tough, empathetic and human without stereotypical aspects so often found in American media portrayals of women.

I've also grown very fond of Nicola Walker and imagine my surprise when her and Susan Lancashire were both in Last Tango in Halifax.

I've seen one season of Broadchurch and did like it.

After having Netflix for only a few months, I can see how one could grow into a huge couch potato.
