Peter, I was that guy here in another lifetime who would occasionally bang the drum about abortion. While
I still think it's something that should be rare, I no longer carry that torch. What I failed to realize then was
that Roe v. Wade was decided by a conservative SCOTUS. The decision handed down was done so with a
7 to 2 majority, with 5 of the 7 Justices having been appointed by Republican presidents. And the Court
has been in conservatives' hands for the past 50 years. Pro-life is really a misleading moniker. They're actually only pro-birth. Period. Nothing else matters. Not
money for wars or tax cuts for the wealthy or funding cuts to programs for those in need among us. They
will vote against their and their neighbors' best interest every time as long as the person they're
supporting is opposed to abortion. Here's something I lifted off Facebook. When you boil their logic down, this is what you're left with:Women: "Can I have birth control?"Congress: "No."Women: "I couldn't get birth control so I got pregnant. Can I have an abortion?"Congress: "No."Women: "You prevented me from having an abortion so I'm carrying the fetus, but my employer won't
provide reasonable accommodations and is threatening to fire me. Would you please pass the Pregnant
Workers Fairness Act?"Congress: "No"Women: "I had the baby, but I'm out of work. Can I have WIC and food stamps until I get back on my
feet?"Congress: "No."Women: "I found a job, but it doesn't offer me insurance. Can I have government guaranteed insurance?"Congress: "No."Women: "My kid got sick and I got fired because I missed time caring for him/her. Can I get
unemployment?"Congress: "No."Women: "I'm having a hard time getting my kid from school consistently. Can we fund after-school
programs?"Congress: "No."Women: I'm prepared to work to support my family. Can you make sure that a full-time job's minimum
wage is enough to do that?Them: No. But what's the matter with you and your family, that working two jobs can't lift you out of
poverty? And what kind of a mother are you, letting someone else watch your child while you work? If
your child doesn't do well in school or gets in trouble, it's entirely your fault. You shouldn't have had a
child if you weren't prepared to take care of him/her."Kevin g
