Well, I would say no and the Republicans have through gerrymandering and backlash during the Obama administration had the upper hand getting senators elected. Democrats were wiped out while Obama was president.

I think the most giant event in terms of American politics in a very long time was Trump winning the presidency. This was an unexpected catastrophe triggered by public anger and as is often the case when people make a decision while they are furious...well...they made a mistake.

So, yes, the issue most people kept bringing up was "Yes, Clinton stinks but this is not about her it is about the Supreme Court and the next president will get to put likely two or three judges on the court."

This was absolutely true and the people that said this have been proven very right. The only reason I did not vote for Clinton was I live in Massachusetts so, as Noam Chomsky said, did not matter a damn if I voted for her. If you lived in a battleground state...well...yes, you should have voted for her. I can't stand the Clintons but yes, to prevent Trump getting elected if I was in Ohio I would have held my nose and voted for Hillary.

So, now we are staring that in the face but, I think a lot of people did not see the reason why the Republicans so wanted to put judges on the court.

It is not about the issues that trigger the public, Roe v. Wade for example. No, it is all about gerrymandering...this is the key...to have a Supreme Court that decides in favor of Republican gerrymandering and never doing anything about getting big money, never rule against Citizens United, out of politics.

The Republicans have gerrymandered their way to an easier path to controlling the House and Senate. This is their only way to retain power.

They had a more favorable Senate map this year but in 2020 the Senate map favors the Democrats...so it is very likely in 2020 the Republicans lose the Senate as well.

Winning the House was huge. It had to happen and it happened not just because of Democrats voting for Democrats, no, it happened because Democrats also drew votes from Republicans and Independents.

My concern now is, will Democrats use their power to fix this country. They have a tendency to compromise. To fall into every trap the Republicans set.

Look how the Republicans have been treating Democrats...there has been ZERO compromise, they have just brutally shoved everything down Democrat's throats.

That whole Kavanaugh thing was a disgrace and in a sane world Kavanaugh's nomination would have been pulled...based not on what Dr. Ford said but on Kavanaugh's utterly disgusting performance following her testimony. That completely disqualified him. That was a moment where there should have been compromise and they moved on to a new nominee. Did not happen because as a demonstration of power the Republicans told both the Democrats and the country to go fuck themselves.

So, the Democrats need to fight back. They need to come to terms with the fact that the Republicans are not at all playing fair, that they are in a street fight not some honorable negotiation.

Trump said in his breakdown the other day after losing the House that he will go to war with the Democrats and that the Senate will be his army.

The Democrats need to respond to that with "Bring it!"

Trump is not a tough guy. His threats are empty. He has done this all through his career. He threatens to sue, to destroy his enemies, to come after you with everything he has...but he always folds and these things never come to pass and they won't here.

The Senate is not going to do his bidding and fight for him unless it is a situation like the Kavanaugh deal where they need the spot on the court so they get favorable rulings on gerrymandering and keeping big money in politics. Or with something like the insane tax cuts for their wealthy donors.

In those spots they will back Trump but they are not going to put their necks on the chopping block for Trump's ignorance and stupidity.

They really would be stupid to do that now while the House has full subpoena power and can investigate wrongdoing. They don't have the luxury anymore of both the House and Senate looking the other way on everything.

So, what we better see from Democrats now is a war on Trump's lies and stupidity. Yes, his "base" has been dumb enough to fall for lies about "caravans" and that the Democrats are going to take their guns...both total nonsense...and sure, there are still morons that will follow Trump down his road of ignorance, racism, and bigotry because they think that appeals to the "base" but what Trump has achieved is to fracture the Republican party...because he intentionally sets it up so that you are either with him or against him...sound familiar?

When Trump read a list of Republicans that lost the other day and claimed they lost because they did not "accept his love and embrace" well, REPUBLICANS found that DEPLORABLE and they made sure to use that word to describe him for obvious reasons.

This is a very good bit from Ari Melber that goes specifically to the point that we are not moving to the right...
